Past Collaborations

For many years, the Environmental Funders Group engaged in several co-funding projects. While the EFG no longer does so, the legacy of those projects lives on.

This page highlights past projects and collaborations of the EFG.

The Aloha+ Challenge

The Aloha+ Challenge is a statewide commitment to achieve Hawai‘i’s sustainability goals and locally driven framework to implement the 17 U.N. SDGs.

The commitment was launched in July 2014, jointly led by the Governor, County Mayors, State Legislature, and Office of Hawaiian Affairs with statewide business and civil society partners.

The initiative aims to meet state targets by the year 2030 in six areas: Clean Energy, Local Food Production, Natural Resource Management, Solid Waste Reduction, Smart Sustainable Communities, and Green Workforce and Education. Each of these areas is measured on an open-data Dashboard to provide accountability and inform action.

The Aloha+ Challenge positioned Hawai‘i as an early leader on the SDGs and led to the U.N.’s recognition of Hawai‘i as one of the world’s first Local2030 Hubs for sustainability solutions.

The EFG was a foundational funder for creating and launching the Aloha+ Challenge Dashboard to help track metrics for the Aloha+ Challenge.

The EFG published He Lono Moku, The State of the Environment Report, to track the progress of critical resource protection work underway, as well as identify opportunities to make game-changing impacts. Each year the report focuses on different priority issues. Topics for He Lono Moku were chosen to align with the targets of the Aloha+ Challenge and U.N. Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
